About The Owner
My name is Matt Umland, and I am the owner of Backyard Brothers Lawn Care.
I enjoy working outdoors, paying attention to the details, and taking pride in the results of each property we service. Building long-term relationships with homeowners and creating a lawn care experience people can depend on is what drives me every day.
How We Started
Matt grew up in Iowa, where he spent most summers outdoors helping his parents with backyard and landscaping projects. As soon as he was old enough to operate a push mower, he began mowing his own lawn and those of nearby neighbors, developing an early appreciation for outdoor work and well-kept properties.
In 2021, Matt relocated to Franklin, Tennessee, where he began working at Vanderbilt Legends Golf Club. It was there that his interest in turf care and landscaping truly took shape. Being part of a team responsible for maintaining the course to the highest standards each day gave him a strong sense of pride and confirmed that this was the path he wanted to pursue.
That experience led to the creation of Backyard Brothers Lawn Care. Founded in 2023, the company is now a fully licensed and insured S corporation servicing nearly 100 weekly accounts. Backyard Brothers proudly serves homeowners throughout Williamson County, including Franklin and Brentwood, Tennessee, with a continued focus on reliability, quality, and treating every property as if it were their own.
